CRISIS INTERVENTION

  1. Notification of University Officials
    In the case where an individual becomes dysfunctional and/or exhibits erratic behavior, the following procedures should be followed:

    1. During Regular Office Hours (8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.)

      1. Contact one of the following persons:

        1. Counseling Center Director
        2. Dean of Students
        3. Director of Vinson Health Center
        4. Associate Vice President for Student Affairs
        5. Vice President for University Advancement and Student Affairs
      2. That person, or a member of the staff, if necessary, will:

        1. Notify MSU Police
        2. Assess needs of students, make appropriate referrals or contacts
    2. In an Extreme Emergency or During Evenings (after 5:00 p.m.) And Weekends:

      1. Contact MSU Police
      2. Call community resources available for crisis intervention, assessment, and referral services
    3. MSU Police will provide immediate intervention and take the person to areas designated by crisis interventionist. (See existing memo on procedure for available community resources.)
  2. Notification of Other MSU Officials and the Individual's Family
    These notifications are to be done by one of the contact persons listed in Section 1 above:

    1. Vice President for University Advancement and Student Affairs who will notify:

      1. University President
      2. Other appropriate university officials
    2. Family of individual
