ENDORSEMENTS INVOLVING UNIVERSITY NAME OR FACILITIES
Date Adopted/Most Recent Revision: 11/10/89
- General
- It must be realized by all administrative personnel that there exists the possibility of a conflict of interest when the name of the university is used directly or indirectly to promote a non-university cause of any nature. In the matter of direct use of the name of the university, it must be noted that only the Board of Regents has the authority to state an official university position. All university personnel function under the delegated authority of the Board of Regents. In the matter of indirect use of the name of Midwestern State University, it should be noted that many personnel, because of their private endorsement in partisan matters or profit-making ventures, may give the implication that the endorsement carries with it endorsement by the university. This is especially true if elements of the university physical plant are used in promotional activities.
- Required Consultation
- All administrative personnel are required to discuss planned endorsements of profit-making activities or partisan causes with their supervisor. If the supervisor feels there is a potential that the endorsement may unduly involve the name of the university or that the endorsement for some other reason is in poor taste and may harm the image of the university, then the matter should be brought to the attention of the President through proper channels of authority within the administrative structure.
- Use of Physical Plant
- The use of the university physical plant in the promotion of any cause must be approved by the President upon recommendation of the Administrative Council.
