EMERGENCY TUITION AND FEE LOAN ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

In accordance with Paragraphs 56.052 and 56.053 of the Texas Education Code, the following criteria will be followed in establishing and administering the Emergency Tuition and Fee Loan Program:

  1. Each student who desires an Emergency Tuition and Fee Loan must meet with a Financial Aid Counselor to discuss the student's circumstances. The counselor will determine whether or not the student is eligible for this loan program. Eligible students may obtain loans on the basis of the order of receipt of applications. The student must be in good standing at the university and not be on scholastic or disciplinary probation.
  2. No more than ten percent (10%) of the tuition set-aside authorized by Section 56.033 of the Texas Education Code may be used for emergency tuition and fee loans.
  3. The maximum loan amount per student may not be less than an amount equal to the tuition and required fees for the courses in which the student is actually enrolling.
  4. The loan is evidenced by a promissory note for a period of no more than ninety (90) days for a loan made for a regular semester or long summer session or for twenty-one (21) days for loans made for a six (6) week summer session. Allowances may be made at the discretion of the Financial Aid Office and/or Business Office.
  5. The rate of interest on loans made under this policy shall not exceed five percent (5%) per annum.
  6. The origination fee for this loan will be $22.50, regardless of the amount of the loan.
