SALE OF STUDENT GENERAL INFORMATION TO OFF-CAMPUS ORGANIZATIONS AND BUSINESSES

Midwestern State University will make available to off-campus organizations or businesses general information concerning students with the following stipulations:
  1. General
    "General Information" is considered "Directory Information" which is defined in the Public law 93-380 Education Amendments of 21974 (also know as the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and listed in the class schedules in the MSU Undergraduate Catalog and MSU Graduate Catalog, and in the MSU Student Handbook which is published annually.

  2. Requests for Non-Release of Names
    Students requesting their names not be released as outlined in the PL 93-380 Education Amendments of 1974 will be deleted from all materials distributed. This request must be made on the form provided for that purpose at the Office of the Registrar during the first twelve (12) class days of a fall or spring semester, or the first four (4) class days of a summer term. This request will remain in effect for the remainder of the academic year.
  3. Material Samples Required
    Off-campus organizations or businesses may be asked to provide a sample of material to be distributed.

  4. Third-Party Use
    The information is intended for the sole use of the organization or business. Whenever informatin is released, a statement shall accompany it stating that the release is conditioned upon the organization or business not permitting any other party to have access to the records without the student's written consent.

  6. Responsible Office
    All requests for information will be handled by the Office of Public Information and Marketing.
